10286. EXTRA-REGIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL EFFECTS OF THE KUWAITI OIL FIRES. Examines the potential and observed effects to-date of the Kuwaiti oil fires outside of the immediate Gulf region with a focus on the effects on the Indian monsoon. Following a brief overview of the climatic mechanism of the monsoon and a discussion of its importance to the region's agriculture and economy, the investigation traces the predictions made about the effects of the oil fires on the monsoon and examines the factors in the current situation which have led scientists to conclude that the effects in 1991 will be minimal. 10 pages, 20 footnotes, 20 bibliographic sources.
