This report provides an analysis and overview of the problem of business-based (i.e., that emanating from and targeted at businesses) computer crime in the United States. The analysis begins with an overview of the current scope of the problem, examining the frequency of occurrence, the number of businesses involved, the estimated costs of the crime, and the types of people committing these crimes. Also considered are some of the reasons behind the growth in business-based computer crime during the past few years. The next section explores the types of computer crimes, including industrial espionage, theft, fraud, piracy, and sabotage.
