12098. THE STATUS OF WOMEN IN REVOLUTIONARY CHINA: YUAN-TSUNG CHEN'S THE DRAGON'S VILLAGE. Drawing on Chen's autobiographical novel of revolutionary China, this paper provides an assessment of the extent to which gender equality was not achieved as the result of changes in women's legal status during the early phases of the Chinese Revolution. Special attention is devoted to the enormous gulf between the newly possible and the practical in rural women's social and family lives.
