13939. COGNITIVE AND PSYCHODYNAMIC APPROACHES TO DEPRESSION. This essay critically discusses cognitive (particularly CBT) and psychodynamic approaches to the treatment of depression. Following an overview of the major goals and techniques of these approaches, the analysis considers how these approaches might be modified to improve their efficacy in the treatment of depression. It is argued that the current paradigm for the use of CBT in depression would benefit from the adoption of a more integrative and psychodynamic approach which takes into account the social and interpersonal aspects of depression.
