This paper examines the impact of the managed care paradigm on the delivery of mental health (or, as it is now called, behavioral health) care services, with special focus on the effects of managed care on social workers (MSWs, LCSWs, BSWs) and the range/scope of services these health care workers provide. Includes an overview and description of managed care as it has evolved within and impacted mental health care service delivery. Changes in reimbursement, controls on providers, and the changing role of various providers (e.g., psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors) within the evolving system are examined.
