Describes historical approaches to reimbursement, discusses the implementation of the Prospective Payment System (PPS) and the impact of Diagnostic-Related-Groups (DRGs) as well as the RBRVS for reimbursing physicians. Analyzes Medicare's capitated method for HMO reimbursement and identifies weaknesses.
