13718. PREGNANT WOMEN AND DRUG USE: IMPACT ON THE FETUS. This study investigates the potential relationship between drug use by expectant mothers and the appearance of developmental disabilities in their offspring. Through an analytical review of the empirical literature on fetal drug exposure, the investigation tests the hypothesis that there is a positive correlation between expectant mothers' drug/alcohol abuse and the occurrence of a wide range of development disabilities in their offspring. Concludes that there is significant support for the hypothesis in terms of alcohol, heroin, cocaine, and tobacco use by pregnant women. 14 pages, 14 footnotes in text, 26 bibliographic sources.
