13524. RELIGION AND IDEOLOGY IN CONTEMPORARY CHINA: This paper explores the current state of religion and ideology in contemporary China. The first section looks at the prevalence and significance of "popular" Chinese religious practices and beliefs in the context of traditional Chinese religious beliefs and contemporary events. The second section explores the scope and prevalence of political-economic ideologies in contemporary China, examining the relative importance of conservatism, radicalism, socialism, nationalism and capitalism in the post-reform era. A concluding section comments on the dominant political-economic ideology of the day - capitalism.
