| 13034. VIETNAM: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS IN ECONOMIC REFORM. This paper considers prospects for and problems within Vietnam's program of economic reform from the perspective of mid-1998. Following a background analysis of the motivations for reform and an overview of Vietnam's current economic conditions, structure, and trends, the analysis examines some of the major stumbling blocks in Vietnam's road to economic reform. Concludes that the future prospects for economic growth and development in Vietnam are dismal barring dramatic hastening of reform in financial services, agriculture, and the state-owned sector as well as a comprehensive program aimed at trimming bureaucracy and eradicating widespread corruption. 18 pages, 43 footnotes, 20 bibliographic sources. |
