This paper draws on theory and findings from modern political science research to support the arguments and observations concerning the critical elements in America's dynamic yet stable democracy. The discussion begins with an overview and analysis of some of the specific elements and institutions of American democracy. The executive branch, the administration/bureaucracy, Congress, the judiciary, voters and elections, and interests groups are examined for their role in American democracy. The concluding section takes a "big picture" view of American democracy and its processes and institutions, examining various theoretical and research assessments of the complexities of the American democratic system and its articulation in American political life.
