This paper provides a review and analysis of Whiting’s book about the pop art movement of the 1960s, viewed from the perspective of a feminist scholar writing in the 1990s. The paper includes a chapter-by-chapter summary of the book, which considers the role and importance of all the major pop icons of the 1960s, including Andy Warhol. Concludes that Whiting provides a good survey of the historical development of Pop art and its relationship to consumer culture and to representations of gender.
