15636. CHANGING FUTURE OF THE CAREER. This paper critically analyzes the proposition that as a contemporary human relations management (HRM) issue, the notion of having a career in terms of starting and working your way up through the one organization until you retire may no longer be appropriate, if it ever was. The analysis considers the factors which have served to displace or maintain the traditional concept of career including changes in organizational structure and organization environments; alterations in the traditional employee-employer psychological contract; new views of career self-management; new demands for lifelong learning; and changes in worker values and priorities.
