| 15061. CHARACTERISTICS OF HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL START-UPS. Drawing on a broad spectrum of empirical studies, anecdotal reports, and business case studies, this paper describes and analyzes the key characteristics of highly successful start-ups. The basic prerequisites of success are identified – solid management, adequate financing, a marketable idea – and the business and personal characteristics which discriminate the "successful" from the "highly successful" start-up are discussed. Persistence, drive for success, willingness to take calculated risks, a high level of flexibility and a willingness to accept the help and advice of more experienced and competent associates/backers are found to be key components in start-up success.
