This research paper examines representations of cultural and ethnic differences in British broadcasting and film during the second half of the 20th century. The paper argues recent decades (particularly since the 1980s) have seen positive changes in the representation of cultural and ethnic differences in British broadcasting and film. The specific changes are illustrated through a discussion of representative films and British TV shows. Notwithstanding the positive changes, the paper concludes that both British society and the British media have a way to go before a truly complete sense of equality and diversity is attained.
