15621. NEOLIBERALISM IN LATIN AMERICA: ARE THERE ALTERNATIVES? This paper discusses the assertion that "There is no alternative to neoliberalism in Latin America." The analysis begins with a brief overview of the ideology and central components of what is known as "neoliberalism" and a review of the outcomes of neoliberalism in Latin America and the problems associated with the model. The major criticisms of neoliberalism as a development strategy for Latin America are then considered. A final section briefly reviews the possible alternatives to the neoliberal model. The conclusion argues that there are alternatives to neoliberalism in Latin America and that the region's achievement of sustainable development will depend upon the successful implementation of these alternative models. 13 pages, 57 footnotes in text, 24 bibliographic sources.
