15988. THE HARM REDUCTION MODEL OF ADDICTION TREATMENT. In this paper, the harm reduction model of addiction treatment is presented as an alternative to the medical “disease” model and the criminal justice “law-and-order” model, both of which are described as relatively ineffective for the treatment of substance abuse problems. The paper includes information on various types of harm reduction efforts, and notes that there is research evidence supporting the model’s effectiveness.
