| 17334. CARLISLE FLOYD’S OPERA “OF MICE AND MEN”. This paper provides a review and analysis of Floyd’s opera of “Mice and Men,” based on the John Steinbeck novel of the same name. After providing background information on Floyd and his other works, and following a brief summary of the plot of the opera, the paper critically examines the opera from a musical perspective. Argues that while some critics have dismissed Floyd’s approach to using dramatic and musical themes, his approach, as seen in Of Mice and Men is actually quite effective in terms of expressing the emotions of his characters.
