This paper reviews Baz Luhrmann’s (2001) musical, “Moulin Rouge.” Agrees with Luhrmann’s critics that there is a problem with his emphasis on style over substance. While praising the film’s visual style and colorful sets, the reviewer faults some aspects of the camera work (extreme use of quick cuts, swirling action) and the film’s thin plot.
