| 17481. HOCKEY COACHING. This paper provides an overview and analysis of the job of the professional hockey coach. The skills, knowledge and competencies of the successful hockey coach are identified and discussed, with particular emphasis on the need for good communication, leadership, teaching and motivational skills. The hockey coach’s responsibilities related to player discipline and skills evaluation are also considered as are responsibilities for coordinating game strategy and dealing with the media. The paper includes a major sub-focus on how advances in technology, especially video technology, have provided tools that assist the coach in managing his myriad responsibilities.
