This paper provides an overview and analysis of John Stuart Mill’s view on the relationship between the individual and society, as presented in his essay “On Liberty”. Agrees with Mill’s position on the relationship between the individual and society, as well as with the implications of that position in regard to women’s rights and the controversial moral issues of the present day. Finds Mill’s arguments to be reasonable and thorough, and agrees that it makes sense to limit societal intervention to situations that involve harm to others.
