17056. SHOULD E-COMMERCE BE SELF-REGULATED OR REGULATED BY GOVERNMENTS? This paper addresses the question of whether or not Internet businesses should be self-regulated in accordance with the free market and “invisible hand” concepts of Adam Smith. It is argued that with limited exceptions (e.g., to protect consumers and children), the free market approach is more appropriate than its alternatives.
