This paper provides a review of Wolfe’s 1968 book about Ken Kesey and his “Merry Pranksters” and their cross country bus trip and experiments with L.S.D. Notes that the book provides an interesting and insightful perspective on the 1960s counterculture. Dismisses criticisms suggesting that Wolfe’s unusual stylistic techniques makes the book unreadable, arguing instead that Wolfe’s style adds a great deal to the text, especially in terms of recreating what it must have been like to have been with the Pranksters while they were using LSD.
