This paper makes the case that the main building complex at the Bauhaus school in Dessau, Germany was designed by architect Walter Gropius as an embodiment of the virtues of the machine age. The paper discusses Gropius’ views on the idea of the machine and then describes how the architectural elements in the main building complex at Bauhaus Dessau served as an embodiment of the machine age.
