17571. THE LETTER OF ARISTEAS. This paper provides an overview and analysis of “The Letter of Aristeas”, a document from Hellenistic times in which the author supposedly tells the story of the translation of Jewish scripture (the Torah) from Hebrew into Greek. Argues that although the Letter is unreliable as factual history, it nonetheless has importance for modern historians and other scholars, especially in that it provides information and insights into the views of the Alexandrian Jews as well as into their relationships with other groups of that era.
