17243. THE REINTEGRATIVE SHAMING THEORY OF JOHN BRAITHWAITE. This paper argues that Braithwaite’s “reintegrative” approach to reducing recidivism among delinquents is more effective than approaches that use “disintegrative shaming” techniques. The strengths and weaknesses of the theory are considered, as well as its usefulness in community-based “restorative justice”.
