17756. UNITED PARCEL SERVICE (A): HARVARD BUSINESS CASE STUDY 488016. This paper provides an analysis and a case solution to a popular Harvard Business School case study (488016) by Jeffrey A. Sonnenfeld and Meredith Lazo on United Parcel Service (UPS), circa 1987. In the late 1980s UPS faced a rapidly changing external environment which challenged the company’s long-established human resources management policies and threatened to disrupt the company’s prized organizational culture. This case study analysis and case solution identifies and discusses the central issues and major problems concerning the fit between UPS’s current business strategy and its human resources management (HRM) strategic plan and practices; formulates a Human Resources strategic plan to resolve these problems and provides an overview of how the proposed plan will integrate with current business strategy; and develops the staffing components of the proposed HR strategy.
