This paper provides a case analysis and case solution to an Ivey School of Business/University of Western Ontario case study (Harvard case #9-908-A16) by Herriman, Wanikawa, Ichinose et al concerning coffee giant Starbucks’ recent (2007-2008) financial and marketing difficulties. The case considers whether or not Starbucks’ business model can be sustained in the future. The paper includes problem identification and discussion, problem analysis with SWOT, Porter's Five Forces, and PEST, identification and assessment of alternative solutions, recommendations, and implementation plan.
