18652. GANDHI’S LIFE AND WORK. This paper uses the perspective of social psychology to examine the life and work of Mohandas K. Gandhi, who led India during the nation’s struggle for independence from Great Britain. The paper looks at Gandhi’s family background and education, and the influences on his way of thinking. Gandhi’s strong appeal among the Indian masses was due to him sharing a social identity with them. His effectiveness as a nonviolent leader was related to his spirituality and ethical stance, as well as his ability to set an example for others to follow.
