| 18109. OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES. This paper discusses strategies that operations managers can use to achieve optimal performance and gain competitive advantage in the global marketplace. The importance of focusing on customer demands (and on the related issue of employee satisfaction) is stressed. The paper first describes some basic guidelines for developing effective competitive strategies. Then, various specific strategic approaches are discussed, including those that emphasize new product/service development, rapid/flexible response, coordination of departmental functions, and implementation of lean production processes.
