18548. REWARDS IN THE WORKPLACE. This paper examines the research evidence on the variables that influence employee behavior, performance and motivation. It is found that a flexible approach is needed in motivating employees because individuals are driven by different needs and ambitions. For example, one theory holds that employees focus on priorities that are related to “eight career anchors.” The paper also argues in favor of the use of an informal approach to rewards, as a supplement to traditional monetary incentives.
