EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION & ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT IN TODAY'S ORGANIZATIONS. This paper reviews the current business theory literature on employee motivation, employee job satisfaction empowerment/ participation, and organizational commitment from the perspective of the revolution in the employment relations compact and consider the implications for organizational effectiveness. The analysis begins with an overview of the recent transformation in the employer/employee relationship and the character of work motivation in the context of a globalizing economy and highly competitive environment. The investigation then reviews the current literature on employee motivation, job satisfaction, job involvement, organizational commitment, and employee empowerment in an effort to determine the major personal and situational factors most important to motivating workers in the current environment. A concluding section considers the implications of these findings for organizations and their leaders.
