15075. The u.s. Software Industry. This paper provides an overview and analysis of the fast-growing and highly competitive U.S. software industry. Following a brief descriptive overview of the software industry, the industry environment and competitive structure are examined through a PEST (Political, Economical, Socio-cultural and Technological) analysis and through the use of Porter's (1985) Five Forces Model. A concluding section draws upon the results of the industry analysis to set forth a mission statement for a proposed new industry competitor. The mission statement follows the parameters of the Ashridge Mission Model, encompassing its four central components of purpose, strategy, values and behavioral standards.
