This paper investigates and discusses the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for decision-making applications in the real world, including real estate development planning, agricultural development, environmental management, urban development, and public management. The existing and potential uses of GIS for decision making in watershed management, environmental protection, agricultural planning, agricultural/non-agricultural land allocation decisions, urban commercial development, and urban planning and management are described and discussed. Limitations and problems in GIS implementation and use within these contexts are also discussed.
