17409. Information Technology & Organizational Communication. This paper provides an overview and analysis of the impact and role of information technology on contemporary organizational communications. The focus of the analysis is on the role and impact of various integrated information and communication technologies (ICTs), such as email, video conferencing, groupware, instant messaging, and others on organizational communications and broader organizational relations. The investigation considers both the positive (e.g., productivity, efficiency, quality, and innovative-enhancing) and negative (e.g., liability issues, impact on motivation and creativity, time-wasting, etc.) impact of ICTs on organizations and organizational communications. The managerial communications implications of organizations’ adoption of ICTs are considered and discussed with recommendations for future practice.
