18575. Nursing Shortage. Taking a human resources management (HRM) perspective, this paper provides an overview and analysis of the critical shortage of nurses in the United States. The paper profiles the scope of the nursing shortage since it emerged in the late 1990s, considers its various causes, and makes recommendations for addressing the problem using HRM strategies. Causal factors considered include the aging of the nursing workforce, the lack of training resources for new nurses, and negative images of the nursing profession.
