This term paper is concerned with e-mails and letters, originating in Nigeria, that invite people to participate in corrupt practices for their personal benefit but are actually designed to con them out of their money through the payment of “advance fees.” The paper addresses the causes of the problem and the efforts that have been made to resolve it. It is argued that the problem should be handled by strengthening law enforcement within Nigeria rather than through outside intervention.
